Hello Coffee Friends,
On May 31st, Mugby will celebrate the 20th anniversary of opening its first store, the drive through on Mankato Ave. On this same day we will be celebrating both a beginning, but also an ending. We have recently made the decision to sell our Huff St café location, across from WSU. This was no easy decision, and I have very mixed emotions about it. Yet, I and my family are in a different place than we were 20 years ago, with different needs and different time constraints.
May 31st will be our final day of brewing coffee, blending frappes and smoothies, and generally speaking, caffeinating the neighborhood.
The drive through on Mankato Ave will continue as normal, as will the roasting operation. For those of you with Mugby cards, the cards and related accounts, which have always been accessible at both stores, will still be active, but only at the drive through location.
While the decision to close the Huff St location was a difficult one, I’m quite confident that all the customers will be in good hands. Amber Ziebell, who used to work for Mugby some years ago, and her husband Jason will be taking over the café, but under a new name–Ridgelands Coffee House. Amber plans to revitalize the café with a lunch menu and homemade baked goods, and of course will still be serving a full complement of coffee and non-coffee beverages. I am also very pleased to announce that I will be roasting coffee for Ridgelands Coffee House, and will be working with Amber in the coming weeks to develop signature blends for them.
My hearty thanks to all of you who were a part of our lives at the Mugby café over the past 18 years. I will miss all of you, but hope to see you at the drive through when you’re on that side of town. I also encourage you to stop in at Ridgelands once they open (there will be a short transition between our last day of business and their first day of business).
So I raise my 3rd first cup of Pickwick to all of you who made this a great location over the years.
Thank you,
Carew Halleck
